We repair and restore historic timber frame buildings, as well as structural stonework. We jack and move existing buildings as needed and do complete restorations of barns: dismantling, repairing and rebuilding.

Careful renovations brought the original Fairbanks family mansion at St. Johnsbury Academy up to contemporary standards. A historically sensitive addition (sketch above) added space and accessibility.

Since 1978, Black River Design Architects has been finding creative solutions to bring new life to Vermont’s historic buildings.
