Vermont Heavy Timber, LLC
Vermont heavy Timber specializes in all aspects of timber frame restoration and preservation with a focus on timber trusses, specifically covered bridges and truss roof buildings such as churches and meeting houses. We have worked on projects as diverse as the restoration of the roof system of Notre Dame, windmills in Estonia, and some of the largest wooden clear span structures in the world. However, we delight most in the preservation of vernacular timber frame structures. We have a deep breadth of experience enacting traditional repairs and working to the standards of preservation and restoration set forth by office of the Secretary of the Interior. We plan and work holistically, and are skilled in jacking and moving buildings, steeple repair, hand hewing, mill and bridgewrighting, and new timber framing. We are fully insured for our work, including for jacking and moving buildings.
Vermont Heavy Timber is an experienced general contractor with strong, long standing relationships with talented subcontractors that allow us to take on all aspects of a project no matter how complicated. We have a fully equipped shop in Huntington Vermont and do preservation timber framing, architectural millwork, window restoration, and cut new timber frames out of it. We also run a sawmill operation, and are one of the few mills that can mill and move timbers over 28' long. We can easily produce 45' long timbers, and with some lead time can cut up to 60' long. We are also proficient at hand hewing, and replace most hewn timber in historic projects "in kind".
We are interested in all aspects of preservation work and if we can't help, we often can connect projects with talented colleagues. For the right projects we will travel anywhere in the world, and are very good at showing up to a job site far from home and creating high quality work with joy. Above all, we're dynamic problem solvers.
