Old Newbury Church, Newbury

Built in 1829, the church was associated with the Newbury Seminary and is one of two buildings that serve as the focal point on the Newbury Common. The building was a center for Methodist learning, and the church and seminary served as the seed that eventually went on to become Boston University. The building continued to operate as a church and survived the 1913 fire that destroyed many village homes and the associated seminary building. The Newbury Woman’s Club took over the building in the 1970s and worked to preserve it as a community asset. Funds will support structural and roof repairs on the entry porch.
