Congregational Church & Childcare Center, Peacham

Built in 1806 and re-fashioned in 1844, the Peacham Congregational Church has been central to community life as both a meeting house for secular events and as a place of worship.  Church members and non-members are working together to preserve and upgrade the structure so it will accommodate new community functions and remain relevant, attractive, and accessible for the future residents and visitors. Its most recent collaboration is with the community-led, non-profit Peacham Child Care Center (PCCC), which will be offering five-day-a-week childcare in the lower level of the building.  The PCCC is investing in upgrades to the lower floor of the building retaining significant historic features. This collaboration will result in greater use of the meeting house and will result in new economic activity by adding roughly six new full-time equivalent (FTE) staff to work at the center.  A dozen families or more will be commuting through Peacham on a daily basis, and Peacham will have the opportunity to provide them with groceries, meals from the Peacham Cafe, and other purchases from local businesses along the corridor of travel.

A Preservation Grant of $50,000 grant will support stabilization of the foundation, preserve the steeple with its rare original historic construction, and provide needed life safety upgrades to the Church and Meeting House.
