Danville Train Depot, Danville

Built in 1871, the 19th century Danville Train Depot is located on the edge of the Village at the intersection of Peacham Road and the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. The historic building and its surroundings have changed little since its construction.

There is a shared understanding among the members of the Select Board, Historical Society, Planning Commission, Conservation Committee, and now members of the newly formed Railroad Station Committee, that the historic structure is not being used to its full potential (it is currently a recycling center). In addition to hosting a small business startup, an appropriate adaptive reuse would direct more visitor traffic to existing Danville businesses by providing a waypoint kiosk for thousands of bicyclists each year from the Rail Trail directly into the Village Center.

A $45,000 grant will complete the project’s budgeted goal and specifically support improvements to the existing flooring, window restoration, and a new roof (total project cost: $267,850). This investment builds on previous Freeman Foundation support in 1994 for building stabilization.
