Judd-Harris House at the Sheldon Museum, Middlebury
The Judd-Harris House, constructed in 1829 as a dwelling by Eben Judd, father of the Vermont marble industry. Purchased in 1875 by Henry Sheldon, the building was gradually converted to a repository for his collection of objects related to the area’s history and he opened the building in 1884 to the public. It is considered the earliest incorporated village museum in the United States. The Museum continues to serve as a community history and art museum, central to the cultural life of Middlebury, Addison County, and the Mid-Lake Champlain Vermont region. Funds will support a window restoration project.
